The Rugrat$ EP Music

Australia is often overlooked from the rest of the world simply because of where it’s placed geographical. The land down under however has been home to some of the world’s greatest musicians, actors, and athletes. Adelaide’s newest group could prove to be the latest example of this in that of rap trio EAST AV3. Bursting onto the scene in the latter part of 2019, the hip hop trio is said to have been making music together since their school days together, before later moving into the same house on ‘East Avenue’ to start taking music more seriously.

Now signed to Warner Music Australasia, they are beginning to slowly make waves in the Asia Pacific area, having just last year released their EP Rugrat$. The trio consists of Nic Flare (who is also their producer), YOURPAPASENSEI and Kane Trop3z (yes, that’s what they’ve called themselves). Their sound is something of a mixture of old and new, as they tend to rap traditionally in a lyrical sense, though their beats and sound dabble in the electro-pop/DJ mix genre of music. It’s almost sounds something like an early Kanye West before his U-turn to Christian rap. The new EP is five songs and the entire thing runs just under fifteen minutes, so it takes hardly any time to get through with the option to listen to it over again. The sound quality on the EP is definitely professional, so it’s plain to see that Nic Flare knows what he’s doing on the production end of things. The lyrics are also very clever, clear and concise, and easy to sing along to which can be fun for new listeners.

Tracks Rugrat$, Turbo, and J!G give the most life to the EP.  The title track Rugrat$ seems to bode well for the group’s image

Tracks Rugrat$, Turbo, and J!G give the most life to the EP.  The title track Rugrat$ seems to bode well for the group’s image, as they seem to make comedic parables to themselves and the popular cartoon show from Nickelodeon. As they’re a group of real friends, the song is indicative of their personality to cause chaos and make (fun) trouble when they’re around each other. Though the whole EP is a bit dark in tone, the track Turbo takes it step forward with dialing back the synths back and focusing more on the lyrics and content of the song. The final track J!G leaves way for the trio to play with the speed of their lyricism as well the voice altering aspects from the production side. It also finishes the EP off strong with hard lyrical transitions and lots of electric sounds that add different layers to the track.

Could a full album be on the way? With as quickly as the group has already risen, it’s not too out of the ordinary to expect as much. The Rugrat$ Ep will have to hold everyone over for now, and though they’re based out of Australia, their music is easily accessible via YouTube or Spotify. Take fifteen minutes out of the day, and see if this new hip hop group has the right stuff to make it big.
