The world may feel as though it’s been on hold for the last year or so, but one thing that will never stop is the music. In the mood for new tunes? This blog has it covered, as this week’s feature is Leon Bridges. Bridges is a soulful singer who’s been dropping albums since about 2015, so he’s been around though he’s also still pretty fresh to the music scene professionally. That said, his new album Gold-Diggers Sound is sure to be a hit amongst current fans and even new listeners who’ve yet to bask in his stylistically creative ambiance.

Gold-Diggers Sound strikes a personal tone, Bridges expressing himself with stories of his life and grind as an up and coming musician. As a genre, he integrates other types of music together with the smooth sounds of rhythm and blues. Some songs have a slower, softer pace whilst others play a bit more up in tempo with added psychedelics and hints of pop and funk in regarding the style. Bridges’ skill as a songwriter is on full display as well, stringing together clever lyrics that have weight but are not overshadowed with too much depth. His message comes across concisely while at the same time being able to play with the fashion in which it’s all conveyed to the listener. As a whole the album lacks pretentiousness, oozes sophistication, and reeks of passion and emotion.

The music production is as good as it possibly could’ve been. There’s a mix of real instruments and artificial sounds to accompany Leon Bridges smooth, exceptionally well controlled vocals. Bridges has range and he shows it. He goes high, he goes low, in, out, and around with his pitch. He also has the innate ability to express how he feels when he sings, not only with his lyrics but in the distinct way in which he delivers the writing. Each song has its own special quality that gives it flair too. There’s a consistency in the approach to this album, but with that comes a methodology that allows for his songs to sound the same yet somehow different from one another. This keeps the track list from becoming repetitive or at any point, boring. Rest assured there’s no chance of thinking either one of those things will be an issue here. If anything is clear, it’s that Leon Bridges produced Gold-Diggers Sound with a pure essence of inspired originality.

Gold-Diggers Sound is a balance between real humanity and fun music

This album is an easy, relaxing listen. It’s not always the most jovial, but even in the moments where it isn’t, it’s hardly noticeable. Leon Bridges has a natural way of expressing himself and his own feelings without the worry of depressing his listeners with an ‘oh woe is me’ attitude in his songs. Gold-Diggers Sound is a balance between real humanity and fun music that anyone can enjoy without having to completely understand where it’s coming from on a personal level. Check out the new album now on Spotify, or on YouTube at no cost.
