It’s a sad truth that most people don’t have access to live theatre. Of those who do, fewer still have access to good or even half way decent theatre. This is usually either due to financials or based purely on location. Either way, these factors shouldn’t be a problem for those who enjoy stage plays or musicals. Today’s show will fortunately be accessible to anyone who is interested, as it’s costless and there’s no need to commute. Tangled: The Musical was performed and shot by Disney Cruise Line, and they have graciously made it available to the public for free.

Tangled: The Musical is based on the Disney film Tangled which came out in 2010. It tells the story of Rapunzel. The famous long haired princess has been locked away in her tower for most of her life. Everything changes when she comes across a thief on the run, known as Flynn. She subdues Flynn and threatens to hold his stolen goods lest he act as her guide, agreeing to show her the outside world of which she has no knowledge or experience. It is a journey that will change both of their lives, granting them each perspective and a new idea of what it means to live and love.

The only real downside to watching this show would be having not been there live when it happened in real time. Apart from that, everything else is in order. Disney may not have hired any big names or A list stage actors, but they certainly spared no expense in hiring the talent that they did. There is obvious musical stage training exhibited by everyone. Every single person in the cast can sing, and sing well. From the lead actors to the chorus, not a single performer puts a toe out of line. The music is also on point. The live accompaniment consists of seasoned professionals who know their instruments from back to front. The show is also directed well. The cast is large but no one is out of place in the blocking, and all of the large dance numbers are choreographed without any noticeable flaws. The tech certainly can’t be ignored in this show either. The lighting, stage FX, and the set are expertly queued, executed, and assembled on all fronts. This version of Tangled: The Musical is all that can be expected and more from a monolith company like Disney.

There’s more that could be said, but then there’d be no point in even watching the show. If this endorsement isn’t enough, it’s also worth noting the length of the production. This show only runs for about an hour and it covers all the necessary information from the original story. This show is a great choice for families at home, especially those with young children, but that doesn’t mean that adults can’t enjoy this as well. The talent in this show is enough to impress anyone regardless of their age or their personal interests. Check it out now on YouTube while it’s still free.
