Bert Kreischer is a comedian who understands better than anyone that the funniest parts of life, are actually just life. His 2020 special Hey Big Boy is now streaming and it is a massive token of his ability to share his true to life experiences and his hilarious storytelling. Kreischer has been in the comedy industry for some time now, but he was catapulted into the global limelight once his story about joining the Russian mob as a college student surfaced in his 2016 stand-up special; it was there revealed that he was dubbed ‘The Machine’ by his friends in the Russian mafia.

For those who may not have yet had the pleasure of one of his shows, they’re all basically the same in format though his content is always new and even better than the last. Kreischer walks out to the applause of hundreds of audience members cheering his name, and in signature fashion, removes his shirt to show his overweight upper-half which he is more than happy to make part of his act. This special focuses most on his family, though he does lightly touch on other hot topics that always seem to make their way into the news cycle. Audiences can expect to hear bits about guns, black people, why getting a pure bred Mastiff was a mistake, his wife catching him watching porn, his family/home life,  and his take on liberal California and how they breed people who are constantly offended on other people’s behalf whether it involves them directly or not.

The beauty of Bert Kreischer’s stand-up is his storytelling. Other comedians have similar set-ups and punchline delivery, and Kreischer undoubtedly has structure to his jokes yet his strength is in ‘what’ he chooses to talk about and how. He’s not afraid to hurt people’s feelings, though he is able to guide audiences through tough to talk about topics in a way that makes him likeable. He also has a more than uncanny ability to laugh at himself and those apart of his family, namely his wife and daughters. He’s crude, yet somehow he’s still tasteful in his approach. Above all else, he enjoys himself and it’s visible that he does so. Though many a comedian thrives off of NOT finding their material funny, Kreischer isn’t afraid to laugh at his own jokes when appropriate and the way he does it doesn’t seem to take the magic out of his act.

Hey Big Boy is still playing on Netflix in most territories so viewing it should be without issue, and the show only runs about an hour as well.

Hey Big Boy is still playing on Netflix in most territories so viewing it should be without issue, and the show only runs about an hour as well. For comedy fans who enjoy true stories (and even overly exaggerated true stories) this special will be one for the books. Bert Kreischer continues to get better and based on this new material he’s not showing any signs of slowing down. Give it a watch while it’s still streaming, and be on the lookout for more him, because he’s nowhere near close to the finish line.
