Animals are now becoming even more fascinating than previously realized. The social media age has exposed the world to the wonders of domesticated pets in particular, showing everyone just how intelligent they can be and the things they can learn. This is no longer just limited to cats and dogs either, as pet owners have taken to acquiring more exotic animals in recent years. The new series The Hidden Lives of Pets gives Netflix subscribers a look at some the world’s most intelligent animals and how they function, as well as how they differ from the average pet.
Be them cats, dogs, parrots or even rabbits, The Hidden Lives of Pets offers a glimpse into the wonders of animals and also their sometimes adventurous owners. Not only are the abilities of animals discussed in depth, but the show also covers their untapped potential and the endless possibilities of what they could achieve in the future through training. Whether its base jumping, communicating with customized buttons, or even dancing, The Hidden Lives of Pets is showcase of the most unorthodox behaviors exhibited by traditional pets as well as some of the more nonconventional creatures that people have adopted. This is a series for anyone who appreciates animals and the extraordinary feats they’re capable of when pushed to learn new things.
There’s not yet any indication as to whether or not the show is to continue. Thus far, there are only four episodes but much is covered with the allotted time. The footage includes interviews from the pet owners, informative descriptions, clips of the pets performing their unique abilities and insight as to how they are able to do what they do. Disregarding the entertainment factor, the whole of the show is educational. Much is brought to light about how these animals communicate, their general intelligence levels (which apparently is commonly underestimated) and how they make use of their senses. The science behind their gifts is the most interesting part of it all, as though their talents are amazing, there is still an explanation behind their capability. There are likely to be a few questions raised however, as some of the practices of the owners are ethically questionable in regards to how they exploit their pets. All things considered though, nothing about the show is overly extreme and none of the animals are physically harmed in any way.
Animal lovers are going to melt over The Hidden Lives of Pets. The shock and awe in response to what these animals are able to do is all but a sure thing for anyone who decides to watch it. Where things go from here is unclear as of the moment but the first four episodes are likely to be a hit, thus creating the thirst for more. Even if this show isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it would be hard to deny the value it provides. There is much to be learned yet from animals, but this show is a good place to start in an academic sense.
