Rob Schneider has been in movies and on stage as a comedian since the late 1980s, and yes, he’s still going. He hasn’t had much time off especially in recent years with new projects coming to release soon and even a few more in the pipeline. His brand of comedy isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but he must be doing something right as he’s not losing any steam. He even had a Netflix series that began in 2015, Real Rob, that ran for two seasons and apparently has been confirmed for a third. How did this fly under the radar?

Probably because again, Rob’s market doesn’t include everyone. Still, Real Rob has been enjoyed enough by audiences that he should be getting at least one more crack at it. The show is a loosely based account on Rob’s daily life in Los Angeles. In a way, this is his version of Seinfeld. It’s not shot in sitcom format, but it is a comedic series that hosts Rob’s personal brand of humor of which the actor has built his career on. Like in Seinfeld, there are even numerous scenes where Rob Schneider is performing stand up for a live audience. Where it differs is that in his world, Rob Schneider is already famous and it focuses more on the randomness of his day to day activities.
There are not too many shows like Real Rob because it’s something of a mixture of reality and make believe. There are multiple characters from his actual life, who of course play themselves, and he is playing himself as well. This gives the show a touch of likeability as Rob and his collaborators are showing themselves to the world, even if some of it is exaggerated. The writing has some clever moments, though for the most part the show’s laughable aspects stem from Rob’s personal (and sometimes overly vulgar) type of comedy. He and his creative team are certainly not fearful of any outcry or criticism as far as when it comes to pushing the boundaries, and it shows in just about every episode. This at least is actually something to be applauded in a time where everyone has an opinion on everything. Rob Schneider has no intention of fixing something that is yet to be entirely broken. He is the same way that he’s always been, and there’s actually nothing wrong with that as long people are laughing.
Some have argued that perhaps his approach to being funny may be dated. If this were the case though, he wouldn’t keep finding ways to get hired. Real Rob is something that actually came from Rob Schneider, and as Netflix seems to be the platform most willing to give entertainers a voice these days (regardless of who it bothers) then it’s no secret as to why he’s gotten a chance for another season. There may come a day where people have moved on from Rob Schneider’s way of doing things, but it is not this day.
